Soft Coatings
The Engineering Coatings
Division of Morgan Technical Ceramics is an applicator of two coating types
- Liquid Soft Coatings such as Teflon / PTFE, Solid Film Lubricants, polyurethane, epoxy, and low-VOC water based coatings.
- Insul-Cote™ P, a superior Parylene proprietary process, which is a conformal, vacuum deposited polymer film coating.
Both are applied to components and assemblies over a wide range of markets, including Medical, Semiconductor Processing, Aerospace, Defence and General Industrial.
The majority of the liquid soft coatings are cured at elevated temperatures, but ambient cured coatings are also available.
We provide a range of finishes from light to heavy texture and a variety of colours.
For the Insul-Cote P™ process, the Parylene material is deposited at the molecular level
in a vacuum chamber at an ambient temperature environment of 21ºC
(70ºF).
Coatings can be selected to solve several problems, including:
Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene process):
- Dielectrics
- Friction
- Tight tolerances
- Chemical attack
- Moisture Ingress
- Complex profiles (e.g. circuit boards, needle tips, etc.)
- Can adhere to fragile substrates (e.g. paper, plastic, rubber, etc.)
Liquid Coatings:
- Corrosion
- Chemical attack
- Friction
- Heat
- Abrasion
- Release / Non-stick
- Conductive Particles
- Wear / Galling
Typical Markets/Applications
- Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene process)
Military & Commercial
- Circuit Assemblies
Used for conformal coating of circuit assemblies, hybrids and sensors to protect against moisture, conductive particles and harsh environments.
Being totally conformal, it protects under components, on sharp component leads and complex topographies without bridging
Hostile Environments
Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene) greatly increases life and reliability of pressure, humidity and temperature sensing devices.
It protects against chemicals, corrosive gases and steam
Medical Research
Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene) is an inert, non-hydrophilic film with excellent barrier properties.
Offering protection against contamination and superior chemical resistance, it also withstands autoclaving and other sterilization techniques.
Applied Medicine
Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene) is a biocompatible, low friction coating that can be used to coat invasive and non-invasive medical devices.
With superior dielectric properties, it is also ideal for Electrocautery Instruments
Aerospace
Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene) protects satellite components from power system corrosives
Semiconductor Processing Equipment
Insul-Cote™ P (Parylene) provides protection from the most challenging chemistries that are found in this industry.
Typical Markets/Applications
- Liquid Coatings
Chemical Processing
The Liquid coatings that are applied help protect against corrosion, provide wear resistance, and increase lubrication.
This benefits drilling applications for an example.
Semiconductor Processing Equipment
A variety of harsh cleaning chemicals and abrasive environments are used within the equipment used to manufacture Semiconductor wafers.
The equipment can be protected against corrosion and wear applying chemical and abrasive resistant coatings.
We have developed techniques to mask areas where coating is not desired.
Fasteners
For tight tolerance and heavy loads, solid film lubricant coatings provide the answer.
They provide support in the area of corrosion resistance and wear when heavy torque specs are required.
Industrial Frames
We coat several equipment frames and chassis, for a variety of markets, with light to heavy textured finishes in a variety of colours.
Generally these coatings are for corrosion or abrasion resistance.
Plastic substrates can also be coated with a textured finish.
Medical
We apply a wide variety of coatings to solve problems in the medical industry to solve problems of corrosion, friction, Lubricity, and many others.
We provide a line of biocompatible coatings, which are used for intrusive and non-intrusive medical devices.
Aerospace/Military
Many of the coatings we apply are referred to on Military specifications.
Solid film lubricants provide great protection and lubrication in extreme thermal and pressure environments.
These coatings are applied to a variety of substrates used in the aircraft industry.
Many bolts, nuts, screws, etc. are coated to provide protection in weaponry, aircraft and space applications.
