Pyrolytic
Boron Nitride
Pyrolytic Boron Nitride (PBN) is a white solid material that is non-porous, and non-toxic. Whilst Boron Nitride can be formed by pressing/sintering methods, the high purity pyrolytic material is formed by a vapour deposition process. The material is highly anisotropic in its electrical and mechanical properties, and very resistant to thermal shock. PBN is also a very good electrical insulator and has very high thermal conductivity. The material is stable in inert and reducing atmospheres up to 2800°C, and in oxidizing atmospheres to 850°C.
Typical characteristics include:
- High thermal conductivity
- Low thermal expansion
- Excellent thermal shock resistance
- High electrical resistance
- Low dielectric constant and loss tangent
- Good chemical resistance
Typical applications include:
- Electrical insulation
- Heating elements
- Crucibles & boats for crystal growth of semiconductor materials
- Semiconductor wafer processing equipment
